Grieving allows us to heal, to remember with love rather than pain.

It is a sorting process.

One by One you let go of things that are gone

and you mourn for them.

One by one you take hold of the things that have become a part of

who you are and build again - Rachel Naomi Remen

Support, Grief Counseling Nantucket

Grief is a personal journey and a natural response to loss. The loss of a loved one is not just a reason to grieve, other types of losses are divorce, miscarriage, financial losses, death of a pet, relocating homes, school changes, health and illness changes and loss of hopes and dreams.

There are no set rules on how you are supposed to grieve, it is a unique experience to the individual. Time really has no limit when it comes to  grief, it can last a lifetime but emotionally changes shape as you move through time. Allow yourself to walk through your grief at your own pace, recognize how you are feeling physically and emotionally, no one can tell you how to grieve.  Experiencing physical pain, insomnia, obsessive thoughts and fears, fatigue and other ailments are all normal reactions to bereavement and loss and talking with someone can help relieve some of the painful symptoms of grief.

I was moved to take this certification after experiencing my clients need to talk about their losses before the start of a healing session. Some did not recognize that indeed they were grieving in some way. The important part of grief counseling is listening and providing support for the bereaved in a safe and private environment and reassuring them that they are cared for.
